The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department says a man has been arrested after he shot and killed his neighbor’s dog. It happened on County Road 89, several miles northwest of Jasper.
According to the report, 68-year-old Ritchie Wayne Droddy called the sheriff’s department and wanted a deputy to respond to shoot the dog, claiming that it had been dumped. The report said Droddy then shot and killed the 6-year-old dog named Joe.
The report said an arrest warrant was obtained on Droddy on Tuesday and he turned himself in. He was charged with Cruelty to a Non-Livestock Animal and if convicted he faces 2-10 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000.00.
Droddy is a retired Jefferson County Sheriff's Department deputy.
