NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - A Lufkin woman is accused of physically abusing her infant son after hospital staff found the baby’s skull was fractured.
Jessy Madilline Moore, 21, of Lufkin is charged with injury to a child.
Deputies with the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office first responded to a hospital in July after staff reported an infant was not responsive, according to an arrest affidavit.
There, Moore told officers she had been holding the baby when her almost two-year-old child hit the baby in the head with the refrigerator door.
The baby’s injuries included a fracture on the side of his head along with a seven-millimeter-wide hematoma. Another, five-centimeter hematoma was also found on the top of his head.
The hospital’s Child Abuse Protection team told deputies these injuries were not caused by a refrigerator door and were instead the result of abusive head trauma.
The investigation also found Moore had taken the baby to the hospital five days earlier for a different head injury, but that it wasn’t severe enough to be admitted. The injuries found during the investigation were noted to be new.
Moore was arrested and booked into the Anderson County Jail before being transferred to the Nacogdoches County Jail.
