Lufkin police are still looking for the suspect and another person that was involved in a shooting incident on Paul Avenue late Sunday that resulted in the death of a 32-year-old man.
According to a press release from the Lufkin Police Department, the shooting incident occurred at about 10:30 p.m. on Paul Street near the Arena Street intersection.
“Kevin Lopez, 27, of Lufkin, is considered a suspect in the death of 32-year-old Angel Sanchez,” the press release stated.
The disturbance that led to the shooting reportedly started inside Sanchez’ vehicle, but the Lufkin Police Department is still investigating the details of what occurred. Lopez and another unidentified man fled the scene after Sanchez was shot, the press release stated.
At that point, Sanchez collapsed in the street. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
After the shooting incident, Lufkin PD officers searched a six-block area, but they didn’t find Lopez or the other man, the press release stated
“We do not know who the additional involved party was, but we would like to speak with him,” said Jessica Pebsworth, a spokeswoman for the Lufkin Police Department. “We ask that he do the right thing and come forward.”
According to the press release, Lopez has a parole warrant out on him, and charges are pending against him.
Lopez is described as a Hispanic male who is 5-feet-5-inches tall and weighs 150 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He has ties to the Beaumont area, and authorities believe that he may have fled there.
Anyone with information on Lopez’s location is asked to call the Department at 936-639-TIPS or Crime Stoppers at 936-639-TIPS if they wish to remain anonymous,” the press release stated.
