Just minutes before jury selection was to begin on Monday morning in the District Courtroom of the Jasper County Courthouse, the prosecution and defense in the trial of a 52-year-old Lufkin man announced that a deal had been struck and a plea agreement had been reached. The defendant, Kevin Easley, was accused and about to go on trial for the sexual assault of a young girl stemming from an incident that occurred in the summer of 2021. In addition, Easley was also scheduled to go on trial for another similar alleged occurrence that occurred involving another child. Easley pleaded guilty to both charges and was ordered to serve two ten-year sentences in prison to run concurrently, meaning he will end up serving a total of ten years as agreed to by his attorney, Ryan Deaton of Lufkin, and Jasper County District Attorney Anne Pickle. The plea was heard by State District Judge Delinda Gibbs Walker.
