Lufkin Police say a bank robbery suspect is in custody following a pursuit early Wednesday afternoon. He has been identified as 47-year-old Robert Harris, of Center. Police say the robbery occurred at 1:10pm at Cadence Bank on Brentwood Drive in the south end of Lufkin. According to police, Harris passed a note to the teller, and after receiving an undisclosed amount of cash he fled on foot to an older model Toyota pickup truck on a nearby parking lot and left. Less than 20 minutes later, police say they spotted Harris and tried to stop him, but he began fleeing. Officers used the pit maneuver to get him stopped and then took him into custody. Police say they also recovered the money stolen in the robbery. Lufkin police noted that after arresting Harris, they saw that he was wearing an ankle monitor. There’s no word yet on criminal charges filed against him.
