ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - With New Year’s Eve celebrations just days away, Louisiana State Police is reminding drivers to make safety a top priority.
New Year’s is one of the most dangerous times of the year on Louisiana roadways. More drivers are on the road late at night, and alcohol is often a factor in serious and deadly crashes.
State police will have extra troopers out across the state, watching for impaired driving and other dangerous behavior.
“Fun can turn fatal very quickly,” said Casey Wallace, Louisiana State Police Public Information Officer. “People may do things they normally wouldn’t do at gatherings like this. When judgment is altered, it becomes a recipe for disaster.”
Troopers stress that drinking and driving is never worth the risk. They encourage anyone planning to celebrate to arrange a safe ride home before the night begins.
LSP reminds folks that choosing a designated driver, rideshare service or taxi can help save lives and ensure the new year starts safely for everyone on the road.
