Newton County Sheriff Colton Havard says a Louisiana man who had methamphetamine was arrested during a traffic stop in Deweyville early Thursday evening.
Havard said Deputy Brent Sonnier stopped a 2003 Ford Explorer on Highway 12 near County Road 4181. The sheriff said when the driver, Scott Jared Statum, stepped out of the vehicle he dropped two plastic bags containing methamphetamine.
Statum was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance.
