A Thursday, December 16th crash claimed the lives of a longtime Tyler County couple. Doyle Orval “Korn Bread” Cowart, Sr., 84, and his wife of 63 years, Kathy Anne Moore Cowart, 81, were killed in the accident which occurred shortly before 5:00 p.m. on Highway 69, about 5 miles south of Warren.
The two had been together since they were sweethearts at Colmesneil High School in the mid 1950’s.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Mr. Cowart was driving the couple’s 2017 Ford passenger car northbound when the driver of a southbound 2001 Chevrolet SUV crossed the center line and struck the Ford.
The couple was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver of the Chevrolet SUV, who has not yet been identified, was taken to a Beaumont hospital for treatment.
Funeral services for the couple will be held on Wednesday, December 22nd, 2021, 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Colmesneil.
