Local schools to have increased security on Monday

The Chief Deputy of the Jasper County Sheriffs Department said Sunday evening that he and others had decided to increase security at schools throughout the county and Brookeland on Monday in wake of the shooting that occurred early Saturday morning just north of Jasper. Duncan said the measure was being taken to add an abundance of caution. In addition to sheriff's deputies, Duncan said officers from other departments, along with State Troopers would also be assisting with the increased surveillance and patrol. Duncan went on to say "Please do not be alarmed if you see extra patrols on campuses, as we want to ensure that students and staff feel safe and provide assistance as needed. There is no direct threats to any campuses." The superintendent of the Jasper schools, John Seybold expressed the same sentiments earlier in the day saying there would be increased patrol and security on all campuses as an added precaution. Duncan said the investigation into the after-party shooting is ongoing and there are no new developments to provide. We will issue updates when they are available.
