A local man with an extensive criminal record has now been arrested in Chambers County after he was accused of trying to steal a disabled car by using a tow-truck that had been stolen in the Golden Triangle.
According to the Chambers County Sheriff’s Department, at about 2:00 Thursday afternoon a deputy noticed an older model wrecker on the side of Interstate 10 as it was trying to hook on to a vehicle that had been sitting there for a few days. The deputy reportedly stopped when he noticed that the tow-truck was missing the required Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation information on the side.
The report said that the deputy encountered Roy Harrell McDaniel, 39, who has addresses in both Jasper and Woodville. The deputy said that upon questioning, McDaniel made statements with several discrepancies, and he soon discovered that the wrecker had been reported stolen out of Orange County.
The report went on to say that a search of the stolen tow-truck revealed approximately 2.5 grams of methamphetamine.
McDaniel was arrested and was later charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
McDaniel has an extensive criminal background here in this area. Most recently he was arrested in February of 2020 by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department on a charge of Theft of Property.
You may remember in October of 2019 the Tyler County Sheriff’s Department turned to the public to assist them in locating McDaniel after he was accused of stealing a travel trailer there.
Back here in Jasper County, McDaniel has been arrested for multiple offenses which include Felony Theft, Tampering with Identification Numbers, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Criminal Mischief, and Disorderly Conduct.
