Beauregard Parish Sheriff's office reports that DeRidder Police received a call regarding reckless driver on Tuesday, December 29, 2020.
Officer Tim Robinson identified the vehicle on Highway 171/S. Pine street and attempted to stop the vehicle. When the driver realized they were being pulled over he made a U-turn and headed back towards the north eventually reaching Vernon Parish and Leesville.
During the pursuit it was learned that the vehicle was reported as stolen.
With assistance from Leesville City Police Department, Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office, New Llano Police Department, and Rosepine Police Department, the vehicle was stopped with the female passenger being detained. The male driver fled the scene on foot.
Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office was contacted for K9 division assistance and Deputy Ben Pearson responded with K9 Max. After arriving at the scene Deputy Pearson along with his spotter Deputy Michael Rick deployed Max who found the driver along a creek. Once Max began getting close, it was reported the driver came out of hiding and jumped into the water to get away. Max was called off and Officers were able to apprehend the subject securing him and placing him under arrest.
Deputy Pearson stated that he could not have been more proud of Max watching all the hard work and training Max has received come to fruition. Pearson said Max performed his duty perfectly which led to a safe ending where no LEO or suspects were harmed during apprehension.
