Leesville man charged with murdering estranged wife

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

A Leesville man has been charged with murdering his estranged wife after he was found at a relative’s home about 190 miles away in the far southeast corner of Arkansas. According to Vernon Parish Sheriff Sam Craft, deputies responded shortly before 7:00 Friday morning to a report of a woman being found dead on the ground with injuries on her body at an apartment complex just outside of Leesville. She has been identified as 40-year-old Tamika Cannon. Sheriff Craft said investigators learned that her estranged husband, Ozell Craft, also lived in the same apartment complex, but he could not be located. The sheriff said it was quickly learned that Craft had arrived during the early morning hours at a relative’s home in Chicot County, Arkansas. Craft said a warrant for Second Degree Murder was issued, and law enforcement officers in Chicot County served that warrant and arrested the suspect. The Sheriff said Craft signed a waiver of extradition and will be transported back to Vernon Parish.
