Large woods and grass fire bums on the Louisiana side of Sabine River

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

MOSS BLUFF, La. (KPLC) - A large woods fire is currently burning in Moss Bluff. The fire, burning near Southern Drive and Joe Miller Road, started around 2 p.m., according to Dick Gremillion, head of Calcasieu’s Head of Emergency Preparedness. The fire is contained, and the cause is under investigation, according to Ward 1 Fire Chief Robby Trahan. Because so many local fire departments are working a fire near Singer and Merryville, private citizens used a bulldozer and a skid steer to cut a firebreak, Trahan said. Gremillion said a combination of high temperatures and wind are contributing to the fire. Multiple agencies have been called out.
