Both the Buna and Kirbyville Fire Departments were busy dealing with a large structure fire near Buna late Sunday morning. The blaze was reported shortly before 10:00 at 1392 County Road 616 in Cougar Country. Buna firefighters were first on scene and reported explosions within the fire and other nearby structures were in danger, so they requested assistance from Kirbyville firefighters. Jasper County tax records show that the home and property is owned by Dwight & Marla Bourgeois. There were no reports of any injuries and no word on how the blaze may have started.
