A home has been destroyed and a fireman injured in an overnight fire that occurred southwest of Jasper, near Beech Grove.
The volunteers of the Beech Grove Fire Department were dispatched to the home of Brady Barnett on County Road 323 shortly before 11:00 and arrived to find the wood frame structure completely engulfed in flames.
The firemen from Beech Grove immediately went to work battling the blaze and at the same time called for help from both the Jasper and Tri-Community Fire Departments.
The firefighters from all three departments battled the blaze for sometime before finally bringing it under control.
After the fire was out a member of the Beech Grove Fire Department realized he had been injured in the fire. The firefighter was taken to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital where he was treated before being transferred to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont where he was at last word still undergoing additional treatment.
*UPDATE* Beech Grove Fire Chief Jamie Gunter said early Wednesday afternoon that the injured firefighter suffered a strangulated hernia and underwent a successful surgery Wednesday morning and is doing fine.... Steve Stewart
