The Keetch-Byram Drought Index Map is showing Deep East Texas as one of the driest areas in the state of Texas right now. Only a small patch of far west Texas and one little spot in south Texas are showing to be on par with our area. Meanwhile, the Panhandle and also an area north of Dallas near the Oklahoma state line are enjoying better conditions due to rainfall that has been occurring frequently in those areas. As of Monday, most of our area was in the highest drought range. Grass is dead in most areas and even the leaves on trees are starting to shrivel and droop down. Meanwhile, burn bans remain in effect across our area. Unfortunately, there's no end in sight for the ongoing heatwave and drought.
