LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - A Lufkin woman was convicted on Monday of aggravated assault and unlawfully possessing a gun, as she was a felon.
Breanne Guzman, 40, was arrested on January 17, 2023 for allegedly shooting a man and shooting at, and missing, a woman.
The defendant has chosen to have Judge Robert Inselmann assess her punishment and has further requested that a presentence investigation report be prepared prior to sentencing.
Police investigated and found that Guzman had been angry that another woman was in her boyfriend’s vehicle.
Guzman approached the vehicle and attempted to get the woman to exit. She refused and said she would not get out because she was pregnant.
According to a statement released by the district attorney, Guzman then went back to the vehicle she had driven, got a gun, and then approached the vehicle that the woman was sitting in for a second time.
Guzman raised the rifle and pointed it in a direction that appeared to be aimed at the woman’s stomach, the DA said. Guzman ordered the woman out of the vehicle again. When the woman refused, Guzman fired the rifle with the bullet lodging in the weather stripping of the vehicle.
When he heard the gunshot, the man Guzman was angry with approached the vehicle. Guzman pointed the rifle and shot him, striking him in the right chest. Guzman then fled the scene and was located approximately six hours later at her mother’s home. She was arrested in the early morning hours of January 18, 2023.
The DA said that Guzman’s actions evidenced her intent to take three lives on January 17, 2023.
“Her desire and attempt to end the life of not only two other human beings, but also the life of an unborn child, demonstrates the danger she poses to the citizens of Angelina County,” District Attorney Amy Wren stated. “The jury’s verdict in this case sends a message that when a person is willing to threaten the life of another, our community will ensure that they are held accountable.”
