JISD School Bus and SUV Collide, No Students Were Aboard

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

A Jasper ISD school bus and an SUV collided head-on early Monday morning. Fortunately there were no students aboard the bus, but both drivers were treated for what was said to be minor injuries.

According to Jasper School Superintendent John Seybold, the accident occurred at about 5:30 on Highway 63 West, approximately 5 miles out of Jasper. Seybold said the driver, identified by friends as Harold Cauley, had just started his bus route and had not yet picked up any students.

Those at the scene said that Cauley told them that the SUV, a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe, ventured into his lane and he drove the bus completely onto the shoulder of the highway, which is where the two vehicles collided.

Both were taken by ambulance to Jasper Memorial Hospital where Cauley was treated and released. There’s no word on the status or the name of the SUV driver.
