Jasper County jailer assaulted by an inmate

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

A Jasper County jailer underwent treatment after he was assaulted by an inmate early Tuesday morning.

Jailer Hunter Walker, who has worked in the jail for about 2 years, said it happened shortly before 7:00 when he tried to break up a fight between 64-year-old Anthony Andre Threatt and another inmate.

Walker said Threatt bit his arm and wouldn’t let go, so he sprayed him with a chemical agent which had no effect on him and Threatt kept his teeth buried in Walker’s arm for over a minute.

Walker underwent medical treatment which included a tetanus shot and he has started a five day regimen of antibiotics.

Sheriff Chuck Havard said Threatt will be charged with Assault on a Public Servant.

Threatt, a homeless transient, has been in jail since March 3rd when he was arrested in Evadale on charges of Burglary of a Vehicle and Theft of a Firearm. The owner of the vehicle held him at gunpoint until a deputy arrived, and the deputy said Threatt told him that he was stealing items in order to buy crack cocaine.
