Jasper County Sheriff Chuck Havard says his department has recovered $25,000.00 after a Jasper County family was scammed.

Havard says the crime was reported on Monday and it was learned that the scam began online and ended at a convenience store in Hardin County which had a bitcoin machine that looked like an ATM machine.

According to Havard, investigators obtained a search warrant and they then used saws to cut into the machine and inside they found $31,900.00 which was seized, pending a seizure hearing before a State District Judge.

Sheriff Havard said “When thieves, low-lifes, and scammers attempt to take advantage of the citizens of Jasper County, we will work swiftly and utilize every resource at our disposal to protect our citizens and their property at all costs.”

Meanwhile, Havard said investigators are working to locate the online scammers.
