Both the Jasper City Council and the Jasper Independent School District board of Trustees will meet this week in special called meeting to again discuss school resource officers.
The Jasper City Council will meet on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and the Jasper ISD Board will meet on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
In the wake of the recent mass shooting massacre at a Uvalde elementary school, JISD Superintendent John Seybold requested for the City of Jasper to double the number of school officers from two to four.
Seybold requested for the proposed officers to be under the same plan that the current officers are under in which the Jasper Police Department holds their commission, the school district pays the majority of their salary while the city pays a small amount of their salary, and the officers are available to work patrol or any other duties when school is not in session.
The proposal failed in a recent city council meeting when Councilmen David Shultz and Michael Daniel tried to pass a modified version of the request.
