Hurricane Hunters to Investigate Invest 92L in Gulf of Mexico Wednesday: See Latest Forecast

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

A team of Hurricane Hunters is planning to investigate Invest 92L Wednesday afternoon to see if the tropical disturbance is organizing and gaining strength in the Gulf of Mexico.

The Hurricane Hunters are an Air Force Reserve Unit reconnaissance squadron with specialized weather training.

A tropical depression still is expected to develop from the system late Wednesday or Thursday, according to the National Hurricane Center's Wednesday morning update. It is expected to move slowly west across the northern Gulf of Mexico and bring heavy rains to Louisiana.

As of 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, a broad low pressure area was over the northeastern Gulf of Mexico about 100 miles south of Apalachicola, Florida, forecasters said. It is producing widespread cloudiness and disorganized showers.

The National Hurricane Center said this system could produce storm surge and tropical-storm-force or hurricane-force winds across portions of Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas later this week. Very heavy rainfall is likely from the Upper Texas Coast to the Florida panhandle, forecasters said.
