SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas (KLTV) - Forensic testing has identified human remains found in Sulphur Springs as a 26-year-old Dallas man, the Sulphur Springs Police Department announced Wednesday.

Through DNA analysis, the human remains found May 2 near a home on Mark Street were identified as Dennis Damont Weems Jr., a police spokesperson wrote in a press release.

Police arrested a 25-year-old Athens man for abuse of corpse after an investigation into the remains, the spokesperson wrote.

Devarrius Damontre Richardson was held Wednesday at the Hopkins County Jail on a $500,000 bond for tampering with physical evidence with intent to impair human corpse, according to jail records.

He was arrested in Anchorage, Alaska, and extradited to Hopkins County, where he remains behind bars, according to police.

Back in February, the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office said Richardson was reported as a missing person to the Log Cabin Police Department, where he was last seen Feb. 2 prior to his arrest in Alaska.

Additional charges are expected.
