A house just off of Bevil Loop on the southeast side of town was destroyed by an early Saturday morning fire. The Jasper, East End, and Beech Grove Fire Departments battled the blaze which was reported shortly before 2:00 in the 4:00 block of Dorgan Drive. The single-wide mobile home was reportedly already fully engulfed when firefighters arrived. Beech Grove Fire Chief Jamie Gunter said a woman in the house had a minor facial injury, and sadly, a dog and two cats perished. According to Gunter, a man in the house said that he was trying to light a gas heater when the gas hose failed and resulted in the fire. Jasper firefighters were called to the house again at about 9:30 Saturday morning when it was reported that some hot-spots had rekindled.
