They’re mourning in Hemphill where it’s reported that Hemphill ISD Police Officer Mike Hanks has suddenly and unexpectedly died. Daily News & More is reporting that although complete details are not yet available, they do know that Hanks, 69, passed away following a fishing trip on Tuesday.
A statement on the Hemphill ISD Facebook page said “He was a positive role model for our students and staff. Chief Hanks always had a smile, a high five, or a kind word to share with all he encountered and never missed an opportunity to brighten someone's day. Officer Hanks will be deeply missed.”
Hanks went to work at the Sabine County Sheriff’s Department in 2014, and he began working for Hemphill ISD in 2018.
