Burkeville Fire Chief Charles Duckworth says a habitual burn ban violator in Newton County has been issued a citation after they were discovered burning late Monday morning, despite being warned multiple times. It happened shortly before itoo at a location on Highway 87, just north of Recreational Road 255 in the Mayflower Community. Both Duckworth and a Newton County deputy responded to the scene. Burn bans continue across the area as an ongoing drought grips much of the central United States, and the level of wildfire danger is extremely high.
