A Galveston police officer shot and wounded a gun wielding man at about 7:30 Sunday evening. According to police, officers responded to a report of a disturbance in the 5100 block of Winnie Street (Avenue G), and once on scene they were told that one of the men involved was armed with a gun. The report said officers spotted him and he took off running. When they reached the intersection of 53rd Street and Ball Avenue (Avenue H), police said the man pulled out a gun and an officer then shot him. The man was hospitalized at UTMB, and the officer has been placed on modified duty assignment as the incident is investigated by the Texas Rangers and the Galveston County District Attorneys Office.
