Grambling hires Mickey Joseph as head football coach

GRAMBLING, La. - A new era for Grambling State football begins as Mickey Joseph is hired as the new head football coach. This comes almost three weeks after former head coach Hue Jackson was fired.  Joseph spoke at a press conference Monday morning and said he is ready to restore GSU football. "I'm here to win on the field and off the field. I'm not going to hide; I'm not going to say I'm too big for this. I'm a real one, as the kids would say. Now, let's get to work and get back to restoring order,” said Joseph. Joseph brings experience from coaching at LSU and as interim head coach at Nebraska that he feels will help him rebuild the program “You start recruiting because, at the end of the day, good players make good coaches. I mean, I was a good coach because I had Justin Jefferson, Ja'marr Chase, and Terrence Marshall. I had all three of those dudes on the same field at one time, and I plan to do the same thing here. We want to bring kids here that want to play in the NFL,” said Joseph. Joseph has some goals for his first few weeks in the position. “Put a great staff together, and then get these kids back on campus and have these kids sit down and look them in the eyes and tell them how much I'm there for them. I think once you do that with kids, they buy in, and they have to buy in. I'm not looking to cut all these kids. I'm not looking to say, 'Hey, you need to get into the portal.' I'm going to give all these kids the opportunity to be here at Grambling, because, you know what? I found you here," said Joseph.
