They cracked a big case in Calcasieu Parish where a man and woman from Georgia have been arrested for a check theft and forging scheme. Investigators say Anthony Hardy, 38, and LeQuita Johnson, 36, both from Decatur, Georgia, were stealing checks out of mailboxes which the victims had written to pay various bills. According to investigators, the pair would alter the name of the payee and also the amount of money on the checks and they would get homeless people to go into banks to cash them. Investigators say it happened over twenty times and the crimes were occurring throughout the parish, including both Lake Charles and Sulphur. The pair were arrested on Tuesday and each has been charged with Forgery, Bank Fraud, and Theft, with more charges expected. Their bonds are set at $105,000.00 each.
