Gene Cordray recently announced his candidacy for County Commissioner Precinct 1 of Sabine County. Cordray's family are descendants of Austin's old 300 first settlers. He is proud to be a 5th generation Sabine County resident. His roots in Sabine County made him graduate Hemphill High School and was a proud member of The Little Green Band.
Gene received his Bachelor of Science in Sociology with a minor in English and obtained advanced hours in physiology and criminology from Sam Houston University.
While living in Fort Worth, Gene worked for General Dynamics in the support and expenditures department.
He became interested in radio communications and moved to Beaumont where he was Vice President and general manager of KLVI radio station. His responsibilities included budgeting, bookkeeping, news broadcasting, sales and human resource agent.
With his return to Sabine County, he worked for Hemphill Motor Company until their closing.
His diverse experience has placed him in radio management, advertising, sales, commercials and as a human resource agent working in Beaumont, Jasper, Hemphill and Many.
Gene is seeking the office of Commissioner Precinct 1 of Sabine County to continue to help the county grow and remain financially conservative. One of the concerns voiced by the members of this community is to update and improve the road conditions without accruing debt and placing undue burdens on the homeowners and business owners.
Gene is married to Denise and together they enjoy their blended family with 2 sons, 2 daughters and 10 grandchildren.
