The Jasper City Council has chosen Garrett Foster to be the new Chief of Police. The decision came during the regular monthly meeting on Tuesday evening. Following an executive session that lasted just over an hour, District 2 Councilman Ronnie Sample made the motion that was seconded by District 4 Councilwoman Angel McCroskey, which passed with all voting for except for District 1 City Council member Marcus Barber who was not present for the vote. Just prior to the conclusion of the executive session, Barber had exited the Mayor's office and said "This is a bunch of BS". Barber left City Hall and did not return. Two others had been in the running for the job. Mike Poindexter, who had been serving as Interim Chief since the retirement of former Chief Gerald Hall in January, and Lieutenant Josh Hadnot who is a detective. Foster is currently a Lieutenant and has been with the department for about two decades. His late father, G.W. "Fuzzy" Foster, was also a Jasper police officer for many years and served as a detective. Garrett Foster is married and has two children.
