Former Sabine Co official set for plea hearing on Thursday

The Sabine County District Clerk's Office has confirmed that a former Sabine County official is scheduled for a Thursday plea hearing in State District Court in Hemphill. David W. Boyd is a former elected constable and sheriffs deputy, as well as a pastor of a church. He was indicted by the Sabine County Grand Jury for sexual crimes and arrested in mid-2019 following an investigation that began earlier in that year. It's not yet known what type of plea deal was arranged by prosecutors. Boyd was indicted on charges of Sexual Assault, Indecent Exposure, and Official Oppression after he allegedly sexually propositioned a lady, and then exposed himself and performed a sexual act on himself in front of her on the front porch of her home. Boyd, who was on-duty as a Sabine County deputy, had reportedly responded to the home of Melissa Tyson to perform a welfare check on her Tyson's husband was away at work when the alleged offense occurred. Tyson later filed a federal lawsuit against Boyd and Sabine County Sheriff Tom Maddox. That case was later thrown out by U.S. District Judge Michael J. Truncale in July of 2021, but on appeal the Fifth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans ruled that the case could move forward, and it remains active in the federal court system. Tyson has confirmed that she will be in court on Thursday to deliver a victim impact statement.
