Former JPD Officer and wife both arrested for DWI

A former Jasper police officer and his wife were both arrested for DWI over the Labor Day weekend in two separate incidents that occurred 90 minutes apart. According to Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark, at 11:34 p.m. on Saturday, September 3rd, a trooper conducted a traffic stop on a 2014 Dodge passenger car driven by 44-year-old Kara Pullen, of Brookeland, which was on U.S. Highway 96 just north of County Road 249. Clark said after observing signs of impairment, Kara Pullen was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail. Sergeant Clark said that at 1:05 a.m. on Sunday, September 4th, a trooper responded to a one-vehicle crash on Recreational Road 255 where he found a 2014 Dodge passenger car, driven by Gary Pullen, 50, of Brookeland, had struck a guardrail. Clark said it was reported that Pullen was “…on his cell phone and distracted within the vehicle while traveling around a curve, at which point the driver lost control and exited the road to the left and struck a guard rail”. Clark said after observing signs of impairment, Gary Pullen was arrested and taken to the Jasper County Jail. Both later appeared before Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Mike Smith and each was charged with Driving While Intoxicated. Bond on each was set at $1,000.00, and both have since been released on bond from the Jasper County Jail. Gary Pullen worked for the Jasper Police Department for several years. He left a few years ago and has worked at other law enforcement agencies – including Silsbee and Diboll – as well as a short stint working security at the Federal Courthouse in Lufkin.
