A former Jeff Davis Sheriff's deputy was arrested after being accused of fraudulently claiming over $25,000 of hours worked on his time sheets, according to the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff's Office. Brant Lee Duplechain, 38, of Jennings, was arrested on Jan. 26 after investigators said they discovered the former deputy falsely claimed to have worked hours on his time sheets, including off-duty detail and filling in on open shifts when other deputies took off for sick or vacation time. The false time claims occurred over a period of several months in 2023 when Duplechain wasn't working or left the off-duty detail before its completion. Duplechain was placed on administrative leave without pay during the investigation, and he resigned earlier this month. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
