The former chief of police in the Town of Ball, Nathaniel Ussery, 34, has been booked into the Rapides Parish jail after a lengthy investigation by Louisiana State Police. Ussery resigned in February from his position.
According to his attorney, Adam Huddleston, Ussery turned himself into police around 1:20 p.m. on Thursday after being indicted by a Rapides Parish grand jury.
He is facing charges of injuring public records, filing or maintaining false public records, malfeasance in office, payroll fraud, and abuse of office.
Bond was set at $50,000.
At the time of the investigation, Louisiana State Police would only say that they were asked to investigate by the district attorney's office: "We were asked to assist the District Attorney's Office with a potential complaint against Ussery. The matter remains ongoing and active."
Details from the bill of information in this case remain under seal, according to District Attorney Phillip Terrell, until a Rapides Parish judge can unseal them. We're told that could possibly be next week.
