A Tuesday afternoon fire burned several acres of land and several pieces of logging equipment in the Curtis Community. It happened during the noon hour at the Norman & Regina Sells residence on Farm to Market Road 777, just off of Highway 63 West.
Regina Sells said she was taking a nap and happened to wake up to see flames and smoke right behind her house.
Both the Beech Grove and Jasper Fire Departments responded to the call. They quickly stopped the spreading grass fire, but it took about 40 minutes to extinguish the logging equipment fires.
Beech Grove Fire Chief Jamie Gunter said that a brush pile had been burned at that location over the weekend and it was still smoldering on Tuesday. Gunter said he believed that wind may have blown some embers and caused the blazed.
Unfortunately, Gunter said the logging equipment that burned was uninsured.
