Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

The Dam B and Spurger Volunteer Fire Departments were called out to a structure fire on County Road 1746 some 4 miles west of FM 82 just after 8 PM on Monday evening. When firefighters arrived the structure was completely burned to the ground and nothing would be saved. The structure which looked to be a house showed no signed of being inhabited. A passerby called in the alarm and with the trees and underbrush grown up even in what was once the drive into the property the structure was hard for firefighters to reach. The firefighters had to drag hoses off the roadside into the wooded area between the structure and the fire trucks some 50 to 75 feet. The firefighters, while putting out the flames that consumed the structure, also had to watch the spread fire, resulting in the danger a major wildfire.
