Fire Drives 30-40 Diners, about 20 Workers out of Golden Corral Restaurant in Shreveport

Fire prompted the evacuation of 30-40 diners and about 20 employees from a restaurant along Shreveport’s Youree Drive corridor.

Firefighters were summoned to a Dumpster fire at Golden Corral in the 7200 block of Youree Drive at 5:50 p.m. Thursday, March 17, Caddo 911 dispatch record show.

Smoke and flames were coming from the back of the business when the first firefighters arrived four minutes later, Clarence Reese said.

The restaurant did a good job of getting everyone out of the building, he said.

At this point, it appears the fire that produced billowing black smoke began in the grease pit area, Reese said. It damaged a fence and caught the back of the building on fire but did not damage the kitchen or dining area.

Firefighting efforts were hindered by a freezer, so firefighters cut a hole in the roof and attacked the fire from another vantage, Reese said.

It took 12 units 33 minutes to bring the fire under control.
