Fire breaks out at jasper Motel

A local man is injured and was at last word undergoing hospital treatment following a fire that broke out on Saturday morning at the Rodeway Inn located near the intersection of Highways 190 and 96 here in Jasper. However, firemen were able to keep the fire from spreading, limiting damage to the room where it started. However, other nearby rooms might have received smoke damage. The volunteers of the Jasper Fire Department were dispatched to the location shortly before 8:00 when it was reported that a fire alarm was sounding in an upper rear room of the motel and arrived to find smoke coming from a window and a man walking around bleeding from severe cuts to his arm and hand. Even though other rooms received smoke damage, the firemen were able to contain the fire to the one room where the blaze began. Police later said it was believed that a fight or altercation might have broken out in the room and that everyone had went outside, when they later realized the room was on fire and it is believed that an man, who so far has not been identified, beat a hole in the window out in an attempt to get back in the room and extinguish the flames. It was said that no ambulance was available at the time and the injured man was finally taken by his parents, who were also reportedly staying at the motel by private vehicle to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital where he was treated for his injuries. Jasper Police are investigating the incident as they try to determine what caused the fire and who was involved in the series of incidents. KJAS News has learned that these were the same people whose house was recently destroyed by fire in the 600 block of Hemphill Street. They had been staying in this motel since that house fire.
