Father of Baby Tossed in Trash Pleads Guilty

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

The man charged in connection to the death of a newborn who was thrown in the trash has pleaded guilty to negligent homicide.

Carl Hall was originally charged with first-degree murder for the incident that happened in February 2018. Police said Hall and the baby’s mother, Thelma Kirkland, reported to emergency personnel that it was a miscarriage, but when help arrived, they found a baby in the trash.
The baby died a couple of months later.

Hall’s attorney, Jermaine Harris, gave News Channel 5 the following statement:

“Back in June 2018, Mr. Hall was indicted for first-degree murder, a charge that potentially carries the death penalty. So we are pleased with today’s outcome. This plea reflects the fact that any action or inaction by my client, in this case, may have been negligent, but not intentional. This is a tragic situation for all involved.”

Hall was sentenced to five years. Kirkland also pleaded guilty to negligent homicide last week. For more information on that story, check out the attached link.
