Evacuations lifted around 108-acre wildfire at Panola-Shelby County line, now fully contained

SHELBY COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - Highway 84 from Tenaha to FM 699 was shut down from 4-5 p.m. Sunday due to a large wildfire. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said a wildfire had burned about 100 acres of land north of Highway 84 as of 4 p.m. Sunday. County Roads 4475 and 4505 were being evacuated, and people were asked to shelter at Tenaha First Baptist Church if needed. Residents were allowed to return home Sunday night. Panola County Judge Rodger Mclane said the fire is along the Panola-Shelby County line, near the Woods community. As of 6:30 p.m., the sheriff said residents of Tenaha could return to their homes. Authorities had asked people to stay out of the area, if possible, so responders could work. The forest service remained on scene through Sunday evening. As of 12:17 a.m. on Monday morning, the wildfire had been 100 percent contained.
