SHREVEPORT, La. - Election Day is Saturday, and a light ballot coupled with a holiday week may have affected turnout - which was low. Early voting was Nov. 22-30, which included the Thanksgiving holiday. Statewide, 107,523 voters cast their ballots early. That's 3.5 percent of the state's 3,044,473 registered voters. There will be four constitutional amendments on the ballot along with a handful of municipal propositions and runoff races. Here’s a closer look at what will be on the ballot:
Constitutional Amendments
Amendment 1: Judicial discipline - This amendment would give the governor and Louisiana Legislature some influence over the discipline of state judges. The Louisiana Supreme Court would also get the authority to reprimand judges without outside input. Amendment 2: Budget approval wait time - This amendment would require the Louisiana Legislature to wait 48 hours when changes are made to state budget legislation to take final votes on those bills. Amendment 3: Lawmakers’ extension to pass the state budget - This amendment would allow legislators to extend a regular legislative session up to six days just to pass the state budget bills. Amendment 4: New process for local property tax debt - This amendment would change the process local governments use to seize property when an owner’s property tax debt is overdue.
