An elderly man was undergoing treatment Tuesday afternoon after the SUV he was driving hit the back of a piece of road construction equipment. It happened at about 2:30 on Farm to Market Road 2800 in front of the Sweetbriar Hills Apartment Complex. Witnesses said that 76-year-old Wilbert Scott, of Jasper, was leaving the complex in his early model GMC Yukon. However, instead of turning onto the highway, he went slightly left and crashed into the back of a maintainer that was parked on the other side of the roadway. The witnesses and also Jasper Police Officer Jimmy Neel said it was possible that the man experienced a medical emergency. He was breathing and had a pulse, but he was completely unresponsive to people talking to him. Scott was taken by ambulance to Jasper Memorial Hospital.
