Deputies with the Jasper County Sheriff's Department are investigating what they say is the brutal murder of an elderly man on the south side of Jasper. However, so far there are no leads as the continue to sort through the details.
Chief Deputy Scotty Duncan said officers were called to the home at 276 Olen Street, shortly before 8:00 on Friday evening, when the body was discovered.
Officers have not released the name of the deceased. However, the son of the victim, Walle Naranjo on Saturday morning confirmed that it was his father Guadalupe Naranjo, who had just celebrated his birthday who was killed.
Walle Naranjo said it was so shocking. He went on to say, "If it was a heart attack or something like that I could accept it, but not this."
Walle Naranjo said his father was a veteran of the U.S. Army, who served as drill sergeant. He said in later years his father had served as an Assistant Warden at the Filyaw Correctional Facility in Newton and had also worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Officers believe Guadalupe Naranjo was killed sometime between 6:30 and 7:41 pm due to the fact that a friend dropped him off at the home. However, they have not been able to find any point of entry or sign of a break in and the son said it was his understanding that both the front and rear doors of the home were open when officers arrive.
Duncan and others have been busy combing the area and talking to neighbors in hopes of uncovering any evidence, but so far have come up empty handed.
Guadalupe Naranjo was pronounced dead by Jasper County Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Raymond Hopson.
Olen Street joins Daily Street, which is just off of Farm to Market Road 252, just south of Highway 190 and the Jasper High School.
Who killed Naranjo is still unknown and Duncan is asking anyone that might have any information about the crime to call the Jasper County Sheriff's Department.
Officers have so far not found anything missing or determined a motive for the crime. However, they believe that Naranjo put up a fight before he died.
Walle Naranjo said he was hoping officers investigating the incident would soon allow him to go into the house. He said "I know I could probably look around and see something,"
