SALINE, La. -- An elderly couple lost their lives Tuesday evening after crashing into a tree that had fallen across a state highway. State troopers identified the victims as Clois Williams, 82, and Mary Williams, 78, both of Saline. Neither was restrained. Both died at the scene. Two other drivers also hit the same tree. They suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene. The crash happened just after 6:30 p.m. on state Highway 9 at the Bienville/Natchitoches parish line. Troopers said their preliminary investigation indicated Clois Williams was driving south on the highway when he hit the tree that blocked both lanes of travel. Mary Williams was his passenger.
