Eastbound I-10 Traffic Diverted Through Deweyville Due to Overturned Crane

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

Shortly after 9:00 Wednesday morning, the Texas Department of Transportation issued a statement which said that a crane overturned and blocked the eastbound lanes of I-10 about 5 miles inside Louisiana. According to TXDOT, all eastbound traffic was being diverted onto Highway 12 which brings the traffic through Deweyville.

Meanwhile, Newton County Sheriff Robert Burby said Wednesday afternoon that not only is the traffic diverting through Deweyville causing problems, his deputies are poised to start writing citations to truckers who are going onto county roads and driving their big-rigs over bridges that can’t handle heavy loads.

Burby said “Those bridges aren’t rated for that, and those drivers will be ticketed”.
