WASKOM, Texas - East Texas is mourning the loss of a cherished community leader and media pioneer.
Jack Dillard Sr., a veteran broadcaster, writer and auctioneer passed away Saturday at the age of 93.
On Thanksgiving Day 1959, Dillard became the farm director for KWKH in Shreveport. A weekly column in the Shreveport Times came along with the radio job.
This change marked the beginning of a career in both radio and newspaper which continued for more than 50 years.
Dillard was also a well-known auctioneer and co-owned Double D Auctions.
Dillard loved and supported Waskom and was named Waskom Citizen of the Year in 2019.
