Early Morning Fire Destroys Tia Juanita's

Archived as originally published. Information reflects the date of this article.

An early morning fire has destroyed Tia Juanita's Fish Camp, a popular and restaurant, here in Jasper.

The volunteers of the Jasper Fire Department were dispatched to the location, about two miles north of Jasper on Highway 96, shortly after 1:00, when a passing motorist reported that eatery was on fire

Firefighters and other emergency crews arrived to find the wood frame structure completely engulfed in flames.

As firemen began to battle the blaze, the fire was fueled by a light breeze from the east, which pushed the fire throughout the structure and within minutes the roof fell in.

The Jasper Firemen continued brave the extreme heat and battle the fire as Chief Jimmy Primrose called for assistance from other local departments.

Before it was over, firemen from the Beech Grove, Lake Rayburn and East End Fire Departments were all on the scene, but there was little they could do as the fire spread throughout the building and completely destroyed the business.

What caused the fire is unknown. However, no injuries resulted from the incident.

Tia Juanita's like other restaurants and eateries across the state had been closed in recent weeks due to the Coronavirus. However, they had reportedly been offering take out and to go orders.

The Beaumont based company, that owns restaurants in Beaumont, Lumberton, Winnie, Lufkin and Lake Charles, opened the location here in Jasper in late 2017.
