In emergency medical care, seconds count. With that in mind, Burkeville Fire Chief Charles Duckworth says everything went the way it should go when Burkeville First Responders and Allegiance EMS were called out to a person having a stroke early Monday morning.
According to Duckworth, the call came in at 12:51 a.m. and an Allegiance EMS unit, which had been unexpectedly stationed in Newton, arrived on scene in only 17 minutes. Duckworth said only 8 minutes after arrival, the patient left the scene on the ambulance and went to Jasper County Bell Field Airport where a Memorial Hermann Hospital Life Flight helicopter was waiting and flew the patient to Houston for emergency care.
Duckworth was exuberant in praising both Allegiance and Hermann Life Flight for their quick response, and he emphasized that this particular call was a good example of why at least one ambulance stationed in Newton County would be beneficial to residents.
Justin Cude, the Vice President of Georgetown, Texas based Allegiance EMS, promised on Saturday evening that major improvements were coming. Cude addressed about two dozen local leaders who had gathered to discuss ongoing problems of slow or no response from local ambulance companies.
