Officers with the Jasper Police Department on Monday released the name of a man who was arrested last week at a local motel in a drug raid. Lt. Garrett Foster, who serves as the department's public information officer, said an investigation into the alleged distribution large amounts of methamphetamine within the City as well as the County, resulted in the issuance of an warrant, which was served at the Sunrise Inn Motel in the 1700 block of S. Wheeler Street on Thursday. The report said that once inside a room at the motel, officers from the Jasper Police Department and the Jasper County Sheriff's Department found a large amount of methamphetamine, along with materials that could be used for distribution of drugs. Officers said other items found included a pistol and other paraphernalia. Foster said John Dereck Bean, 40, of Sweeny, which is west of Lake Jackson, was arrested and later charged with Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 in an amount that would result in a 1st degree felony. Bond on Bean was set at $100,000 and at last word he was still being held in the Jasper County Jail.
